This exposes a profound biological bias that shapes almost every human intuition: we instinctively believe that intelligence requires a face.
When we try to visualize brilliance, we always picture an isolated individual. We think of Newton watching an apple fall in a quiet orchard. We think of Einstein scribbling equations on a chalkboard in a silent study. We think of Socrates walking the Athenian agora. We build physical statues to single heads.
This exact bias has bled directly into how we talk about modern technology. When people debate the arrival of Artificial Superintelligence, they almost always imagine a singular, omniscient mind trapped inside a massive server rack—a digital god that suddenly wakes up and possesses all the answers.
This individual framing is a psychological trap.
In reality, the greatest achievements of intelligence have almost always been collective.
Consider Einstein. He was undeniably an intellectual giant. But did Einstein invent the mathematical symbols he used? Did he discover calculus from absolute scratch? Did he manufacture the paper he wrote on, build the universities that housed him, or create the language he used to form his thoughts?

Ooo yes, this is a great explanation! I’ve often used the ant and the bees as a analogy for civilization, but the decentralized nature of this intelligences is a novel twist I hadn’t yet explored. It is coherent. Collectively along with the intelligence of the planet decide what can be sustained, what cannot, and what do next. I’d like to go one step further, and call a larger branch of that process, evolution.
